One of the world's leading botanical gardens, spanning 75 hectares with 22,000 plant species, 10 exhibition greenhouses, and some thirty themed gardens, including the renowned Chinese and Japanese gardens.
Founded in 1931 by Brother Marie-Victorin, a renowned Québec botanist, in collaboration with landscape architect Henry Teuscher, the Botanical Garden was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 2007. The First Nations Garden showcases the food, medicinal, and practical uses of plants by Indigenous peoples, while the Rose Garden, with its 7,000 rosebushes, demonstrates that it is possible to cultivate species once thought incompatible with Québec's climate. The Garden is part of the Espace pour la vie museum complex, which also includes the Biodome, Insectarium, and Planetarium.
