Fairmont Le Château Montebello

The story of Château Montebello begins in 1930 on the grounds of the former expansive seigneurial estate that once belonged to Louis-Joseph Papineau, a prominent political figure in 19th-century Lower Canada. Originally designed as an exclusive private club for wealthy North American clientele, the building was constructed in the remarkably short span of less than four months—a construction feat that remains a source of pride for the establishment to this day. This architectural achievement resulted in the world's largest round-log structure, a distinction the château has held for nearly a century and one that continues to astound visitors upon entering the main hall, where an impressive six-sided stone fireplace immediately captures attention beneath the soaring exposed timber framework of breathtaking proportions.
