Mont-Tremblant Resort

Mont-Tremblant's story takes root in 1938, when Joseph Bondurant Ryan, a young and wealthy American prospector from Philadelphia who came to the region seeking gold, climbed Mont-Tremblant — called Manitou Ewitchi Saga by the Algonquin people, the mountain of the fearsome manitou — and fell under the spell of the winter panorama stretching before him from the summit. Captivated by the site's potential, Ryan opened the doors of Mont-Tremblant Lodge in February 1939, an alpine village whose architecture drew direct inspiration from Old Quebec, thereby laying the foundations for what would become one of North America's most important ski destinations. The resort, which hosted the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix on its nearby circuit twice in 1968 and 1970, has since risen to international prominence, voted repeatedly by SKI magazine readers as the number one ski resort in eastern North America for no fewer than twenty consecutive years. Today, more than 100 alpine ski slopes unfold across the mountain's north and south faces, complemented by two golf courses and a specialized academy, while the pedestrian village at the mountain's base, bustling year-round with more than 30 restaurants and 35 boutiques, offers diverse accommodation ranging from condos to luxury hotels. World downhill skiing champion Erik Guay, a native of the region, cut his teeth here before becoming world champion in 2011, illustrating the competitive heritage that this iconic mountain continues to cultivate.
