Refuge Pageau

The Pageau Refuge's story has been unfolding for over thirty years around a unique relationship between a family and the wildlife of Abitibi-Témiscamingue, beginning with a calling for animal rescue that gradually evolved into a recognized non-profit organization and one of the region's must-see attractions. The organization's mission is to welcome and rehabilitate wildlife in distress—injured, sick or orphaned—with the primary goal of releasing them back into the wild once they have recovered, but when release proves impossible due to the severity of their injuries or their inability to survive alone in their natural habitat, the refuge provides them with a permanent home where they can continue their lives in dignified conditions. Visitors following the wooden trail through the site can observe moose, wolves, white-tailed deer, raccoons and several species of birds of prey, each with their own story told by the refuge's guides, creating a particularly moving educational experience about the fragility and resilience of boreal wildlife.
