Yamaska National Park

Yamaska National Park was established in 1983 around the Choinière Reservoir, a vast artificial body of water spanning 4.56 km² that remains its geographic and recreational heart today. Unlike many Quebec national parks oriented toward mountain hiking, Yamaska stands out for its aquatic and family-friendly focus, with its supervised beach ranking among the most popular in the SEPAQ network during warm summer days. The territory, representative of the typical Appalachian lowlands found throughout southern Estrie, is home to abundant avian and aquatic wildlife—fish, ducks, and great herons coexist in this ecosystem rich in biodiversity, situated near agricultural areas and small municipalities such as Roxton Pond and Granby. The park makes a perfect complement to a visit to the Granby Zoo, located just minutes away, and features a network of trails for both hiking and cycling through a forested valley that offers a pleasant contrast to the more rugged landscapes of Mont-Orford or Mont-Mégantic further east. Boat rentals on the reservoir allow visitors to explore the water at their own pace, in a setting where nature remains remarkably preserved despite proximity to populated areas.
