Île aux Perroquets and the Mingan Archipelago Lighthouse Stations
A seabird sanctuary nestled at the western tip of the Mingan Archipelago, Île aux Perroquets owes its name to the Atlantic puffin colonies that frequent it, and offers unique heritage lodging in the former lighthouse keeper's house.
Parrot Island owes its evocative name to the Atlantic puffins that nest here in great numbers, these colorful-beaked seabirds having been affectionately nicknamed "sea parrots" by the fishermen and sailors who once plied these waters. Located at the western extremity of the Mingan Archipelago, the island is home to a historic lighthouse station whose keeper's house, decorated in 1950s style, has been transformed into an immersive four-star accommodation where each room bears the name of a prominent figure from island history, such as Mary C. Kavanagh or Henry de Puyjalon, naturalist and the lighthouse's first keeper in the 19th century. This heritage accommodation formula, operated in partnership with Parks Canada, enables a fully immersive experience of island life in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, far removed from any modern infrastructure, where the rhythm of the tides and the passage of seabirds shape your stay. The island also constitutes, due to its relative isolation from other islands frequented by day visitors, a privileged site for observing avian wildlife in a particularly pristine setting, exemplifying the contemplative dimension and sense of remoteness that characterize the entire Minganie experience.
