Percé Geopark (Geosite)

Designated a UNESCO Global Geopark, the Percé territory features an exceptional concentration of remarkable geological formations, from Percé Rock to fossil-bearing cliffs, recounting more than 500 million years of Earth's history.

The UNESCO Global Geopark designation, awarded for the richness and educational value of its geological heritage, distinguishes Percé as an international reference site for understanding the geological history of the Appalachians. Percé Rock itself, composed of fossil-bearing limestone dating from the Devonian period (approximately 400 million years ago), and nearby Bonaventure Island, formed from Carboniferous conglomerate (approximately 310 million years ago), alone illustrate distinct and contrasting chapters of this long geological story.
