Québec and Canada's largest casino, housed since 1993 in the former France and Québec pavilions from Expo 67 on Île Notre-Dame, this property welcomes more than six million visitors annually in a unique architectural setting.
The history of Casino de Montréal is directly rooted in the architectural legacy of the 1967 Universal Exposition: the site selected by the Government of Quebec for the province's first legal casino, approved by the Cabinet on December 15, 1992 and inaugurated the following year, corresponds precisely to the former France pavilion, which had since become the Palace of Civilization, erected on Île Notre-Dame, an island specially created for this exposition that welcomed more than 50 million visitors under the theme Man and His World. The interior design, entrusted to architects Jean Faugeron and André Blouin, had to tackle a unique challenge compared to traditional casinos typically spread across a single level: the original Expo 67 building, designed without this purpose in mind, imposed a distribution of spaces across multiple floors, a constraint that was successfully transformed into the establishment's distinctive architectural signature. Today managed by the Société des casinos du Québec, a subsidiary of Loto-Québec, the complex stands as Canada's premier casino, welcoming over six million visitors annually who enjoy an extensive range of gaming tables, slot machines, restaurants, bars, and a performance hall renowned for its diverse programming. The neighboring Quebec pavilion, another architectural remnant from Expo 67, now serves as an annex to the complex, while the immersive ARcade experience, a collaboration with Montreal studio Moment Factory, demonstrates the establishment's ongoing commitment to refreshing its entertainment offerings beyond traditional gaming.
