Véloroute des Bleuets

Inaugurated at the turn of the 2000s, the Véloroute des Bleuets takes its name from the wild blueberry, an iconic fruit of the Lake Saint-Jean region whose cultivation and harvesting represent a major economic and cultural activity for the surrounding communities. The circuit connects about thirty municipalities arranged all around Lake Saint-Jean, alternating between dedicated bike paths, low-traffic shared roads, and passages through national parks, including Pointe-Taillon where the trail runs alongside 15 km of some of the circuit's most beautiful sandy beaches. The route crosses landscapes of remarkable diversity: agricultural plains dotted with blueberry fields, riverside villages with well-preserved heritage architecture, lakeside areas offering sweeping views over this genuine inland sea, and forested sectors on the periphery. Designed to be completed in several stages—the full loop typically taking three to five days depending on the cyclist's pace—the Véloroute des Bleuets benefits from well-developed visitor amenities, including cyclist-friendly accommodations, regular service stops, and consistent signage throughout the entire route. Today, the circuit stands as one of the region's most recognized tourism attractions, drawing international cycling enthusiasts each summer and exemplifying the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region's ability to leverage its vast central lake as a cornerstone recreational and tourism asset.
