A state museum known for its bold museology, designed by internationally renowned architect Moshe Safdie, offering fresh and often unexpected perspectives on the human experience.

Inaugurated in 1988 after four years of construction, the museum incorporates several historic buildings along Rue Dalhousie, including the former Bank of Quebec and the Estèbe House (1751), where archaeological excavations unearthed a boat dating back to the French colonial period. The permanent exhibition Quebec, Otherwise traces the pivotal events that shaped Quebec, while a dedicated exhibition on Indigenous and Inuit nations rounds out the programming. The museum thus combines scientific rigor with decidedly contemporary museology.
